it’s a book!

Yes, “Alphabetic Ballyhoos: or Crotchety Draconian Expletives” has been put to bed, just in time for the beginning of my second year at SVA. Stay tuned for information about the upcoming Book Show in New York in November, and how you can get your own copy of this riff on the traditional forms of the ABC book and illuminated manuscript—a story of great verbosity with virtually no verbs.

How do you get on a Carnegie Hall Playbill cover?

All it took was practice, practice, practice. One of my pieces, entitled "Spring", has been selected as cover art for the Carnegie Hall Playbill program books for March 2009.

views from governor's island

Some friends and I went to Governor's Island today with a picnic and rode bikes around. Although it's so small, you can see everything on foot. There are old barracks, houses, some art installations, gorgeous views of the city, and it's a great place to do some drawing.

Long Island Museum

Two of my etchings have been selected as finalists in the Long Island Museum’s “Summer on Long Island” juried art show, in lovely Stony Brook, New York. Yay!

Yes, there's a metaphor here for the state of my mind these days, but it was really just sitting around my apartment. I used it for my bookmaking class. (More on that stuff in a later post.)

ICON5 king of spades

As a promotion for this week's ICON5 illustrators' conference in NYC, Xerox printed a deck of cards featuring art from all the participating schools. I was asked to design a suit for SVA and given the king of spades for my piece. In this photograph, you can see the...um...knight, and the box art by Edel Rodriguez.
